Data Analytics Graduate Certificate

Data analytics certificate curriculum includes:

1. Core courses (8 credits):

BANA 6043 Statistical Computing 2 (w/ SAS and R) cr

BANA 7038 Data Analysis Methods (R)2 cr

IS 6030 Data Management (w/ SQL) 2 cr (For MSIS, IS 7030 can replace IS 6030)

IS 7034 Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence 2 cr

2. Electives courses (4 credits):

BANA 6037 Data Visualization 2 cr (offered in summer through distance learning (DL))

BANA 6044 Applications Development Using VBA 2 cr (offered in summer)

BANA 7046 Data Mining I 2 cr

BANA 7047 Data Mining II 2 cr

IS 7032 Database Design 2 cr

IS 7036 Data Mining for Business Intelligence 2 cr

IS 7038 Managing Business Intelligence Projects 2 cr


Exceptions: ECON 8010 Econometrics 4 cr (For economics students, ECON 8010 = BANA 7038 + BANA 6043)

Minimum GPA: 3.0

The electives listed above represent the typical set from which most students will choose. Students may be able to choose other electives to match specific career goals, with the approval of the Program Director Yichen Qin. Core courses cannot be replaced. Due to class offerings, individuals interested in this certificate as a standalone program should apply to the spring or fall semesters.\


Admission Requirements

Any student with an undergraduate bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution, regardless of field of study, is eligible to apply for admission to a Graduate Certificate. Applicants for the Data Analytics Certificate should have at least one course in inferential statistics but may meet this requirement by taking an additional course (BANA7011 Data Analysis) before starting the Data Analytics courses. Additional requirements are:
